Joshua Roybal, LCSW Professional Bio

Joshua Roybal is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and the founder of Mindful Point Behavioral Health Counseling LLC. A proud New Mexican — born and raised — and Army veteran, he holds a Master of Social Work from New Mexico Highlands University and a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology from the University of New Mexico.

Before establishing his clinical career, Joshua built his professional foundation in community mental health and nonprofit settings — working as a transitional living assistant supporting adults with behavioral health challenges, a Community Support Services (CCSS) worker, and providing direct care to adults experiencing homelessness. This early work grounded him in the realities of systemic barriers, chronic stress, and the resilience required to navigate life at its most difficult — and it continues to shape how he shows up with clients today. He went on to serve at the Veterans Health Administration, where he deepened his expertise working with adults navigating complex trauma, anxiety, depression, and major life transitions across a wide range of experiences.

Joshua's clinical training spans several evidence-based modalities:

●      For trauma and Complex PTSD: Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Written Exposure Therapy (WET), Prolonged Exposure (PE), and Image Rehearsal Therapy (IRT) for trauma-related nightmares

●      For anxiety and avoidance: Exposure-based therapies targeting panic, phobias, OCD, and related anxiety disorders

●      For CPAP desensitization: Structured exposure therapy to support adults — particularly those with PTSD and co-occurring sleep apnea — in tolerating and consistently using CPAP equipment

●      For depression and life adjustment: Support through major transitions, loss, and depressive episodes, with a focus on building meaning and momentum

●      Across presentations: Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT), and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) to build psychological flexibility, interrupt unhelpful thought patterns, and cultivate a kinder relationship with yourself — alongside Motivational Interviewing to support ambivalence and strengthen your own reasons for change

He also has specialized experience working with veterans and first responders, and welcomes clients from all backgrounds. Joshua is a member of the Association for Contextual Behavioral Science (ACBS) — a global community of researchers, clinicians, and practitioners dedicated to the advancement of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and contextual behavioral science — and is listed as an ACT therapist on their international therapist directory. He also serves as an active provider with the American Association of Trauma Recovery Networking (AATRN), offering pro bono sessions in support of trauma survivors in need.
