Insurance & Affordability

MindfulMindful Point Behavioral Health Counseling is committed to making quality trauma-informed care accessible. We are actively working to accept insurance and expand affordability options for our clients.

• Aetna

Coming Soon — Accepted Insurance Plans:

We are currently in the credentialing process with the following plans and expect to begin accepting them in the coming months:

• Turquoise Care (Medicaid MCOs)

• Medicare

• VA Community Care Network (TriWest) — for eligible veterans with a VA-issued CCN referral. To use this benefit, you must have an active referral from a VA provider or case worker before scheduling.

• TRICARE West — for active duty service members, dependents, and military retirees covered under DoD health benefits.

• Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Mexico (BCBS NM)

• Cigna

• United Healthcare / Optum

• Humana

• Presbyterian

If your plan is listed above, feel free to reach out — we are happy to notify you when we are in-network with your carrier so you can plan ahead.

Your Insurance Costs

Once insurance is accepted, your out-of-pocket costs will be determined by your individual plan benefits. Common client responsibilities may include:

Copays — a fixed amount due at the time of service

Deductibles — an annual amount you pay before insurance begins covering costs

Coinsurance — your share of the cost after your deductible is met

I encourage you to contact your insurance provider to confirm your mental health benefits. I am happy to provide your plan with any information they need, but benefit verification and coverage questions are best directed to your carrier. If cost is a barrier to starting care, I encourage you to reach out — we can discuss a temporary reduced fee to get you started. As insurance panels become available, we can work together to transition your coverage to your insurance plan, potentially reducing your out-of-pocket costs further.

Paying Out of Pocket

Some clients choose to pay privately rather than use insurance, and there are a number of reasons that may make sense for you:

Your plan isn’t accepted yet — if we are still in the credentialing process with your carrier, private pay allows you to begin care now rather than wait

Privacy — using insurance requires a diagnosis on record; some clients prefer to keep their mental health care off their insurance history

Flexibility — private pay clients are not subject to insurance-imposed session limits, treatment requirements, or utilization reviews

Out-of-network benefits — if your plan includes out-of-network mental health coverage, you may be able to seek partial reimbursement using a superbill (see below)

If you are unsure whether insurance or private pay is right for you, we are happy to talk through your options during your free consultation. Private pay rates are listed in the fee schedule below.

Payment Policies

Payment:

Payment is due at the time or day of service. Accepted methods include major credit and debit cards, HSA/FSA cards, and electronic payment. A valid payment method on file is required prior to the first session.

Superbills & Out-of-Network Reimbursement:

A superbill — an itemized receipt with CPT codes, diagnosis codes, and provider NPI — is available upon request for clients who wish to seek out-of-network reimbursement from their insurance carrier. Reimbursement is not guaranteed and is the client’s responsibility to pursue.

Cancellation Policy:

A minimum of 24 hours’ notice is required to cancel or reschedule an appointment. Late cancellations and no-shows may be charged the full session fee. This charge is not billable to insurance.

Sliding Scale:

Please inquire during your initial consultation. A limited number of reduced-fee slots may be available based on financial need or temporary financial circumstances.

Good Faith Estimate:

Under the No Surprises Act, you have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate of the expected cost of your care prior to beginning services. A written estimate will be provided upon request or prior to your first appointment.

Community Pro Bono Services — AATRN

I am a volunteer provider with the Albuquerque Area Trauma Recovery Network (AATRN), a community coalition responding to victims of violence in the Albuquerque area. Through AATRN, up to six free EMDR therapy sessions are available to adults who have recently experienced trauma and who do not have insurance or cannot easily access mental health services. The goal is to prevent PTSD by providing care within three months of the incident.

If you or someone you know may be eligible, you can contact AATRN directly at aatrn.org or reach out to me and I will help connect you to the right resources.
