This guide is intended as a clinical referral resource for clients who require a higher level of care than outpatient therapy provides. Resources are organized by level of care intensity.

Psychiatric Inpatient / Crisis Stabilization

For clients experiencing acute psychiatric instability, active suicidality, psychosis, severe mood episodes, or any situation requiring 24-hour monitoring and intervention.
Albuquerque Area
• Presbyterian Inpatient Behavioral Health — Kaseman Hospital, 8300 Constitution Ave NE. Hospital-based inpatient psychiatric unit with dedicated units for children, adolescents, adults, and seniors. Acute stabilization, medication management, group and family therapy. 505-291-2560
• Lovelace Medical Center — Inpatient Psychiatric Unit — Hospital-based 25-bed adult unit; focuses on adults ages 18–50 with acute psychiatric episodes including depression, suicidal ideation, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and dual diagnosis. 505-727-8000
• Central Desert Behavioral Health — 64-bed inpatient psychiatric facility in central NM; accepts admissions 24/7. Focused on adults; acute stabilization and reintegration.
• Haven Behavioral Hospital of Albuquerque — Inpatient psychiatric care for adults and older adults. Also offers IOP step-down. 505-254-4564
• UNM Psychiatric Center — Hospital-based inpatient psychiatric care through UNM Health; affiliated with UNM Health Sciences. Access through UNM behavioral health or ED referral.

• NMBHI — New Mexico Behavioral Health Institute — Las Vegas, NM. Only state-owned, publicly funded psychiatric hospital in New Mexico. Serves adults statewide; voluntary, involuntary, and court-ordered admissions. Adult Psychiatric Division only; separate forensic division. 505-454-2100

Detox
• Turquoise Lodge Hospital — State-operated facility in Albuquerque. Medical detox and substance rehabilitation. Priority populations include pregnant individuals, injecting drug users, and parents seeking custody. Also offers IOP. Accepts Medicaid. nmhealth.org
• CARE Campus — Bernalillo County — 24/7 social detox at no charge for Bernalillo County residents. Non-medical model. Good bridge option while awaiting residential placement.

Intensive Outpatient (IOP) & Partial Hospitalization (PHP)

For clients who need more structure than weekly outpatient therapy but do not require inpatient or residential placement. PHP is typically 5 days/week, 5–6 hours/day. IOP is typically 3 days/week, 3 hours/day.
